Our Story

In 2008, while the financial markets were on the brink of collapse, Chris Hanson made the first investment that would become Hanson Capital. Here’s how we got from there to $280M in assets under management.

Started in a Crisis, Built on Discipline

Chris Hanson is not one to wait when an attractive opportunity presents itself. That’s why when the financial markets were on the brink of collapse in 2008, he maxed out his personal credit card advances to make what would become Hanson Capital’s first successful real estate investment.

Now that may seem impulsive, maybe even a little reckless. The truth is it was anything but.

Because as nimble, action oriented and hard working as Hanson Capital was created to be, the company was also founded on conservative investment principles, with a proven process that includes:

  • Relentless deal sourcing
  • Rigorous evaluation
  • Razor-sharp underwriting
  • Hands-on asset management
  • Co-investment in every transaction

How We Got Here

  1. 2008

    The first deal

With the markets in freefall, Chris funds Hanson’s first investment with personal credit card advances.

  2. 2008-09

    Buying where others wouldn’t

Chris invests in residential real estate during the downturn, then forms an auction bidding service to acquire single-family homes at scale.

  3. 2014

    Lending grows up

Tiffany Harper steps in as Director of Lending at Hanson Capital, LLC, the firm’s licensed mortgage bank (AZ MB-0925472, NMLS 1115218), and builds the systems behind its loan origination and servicing. Having its own lender means Hanson’s acquisitions aren’t at the mercy of outside financing.

  4. 2020

    The shift to industrial

As residential and multifamily opportunities tighten, Hanson makes the first acquisition for its Industrial Fund I: industrial outdoor storage in infill Phoenix, where market imbalances create stronger opportunities for investors.

  5. 2025-26

    Industrial Fund I sells to a J.P. Morgan-backed buyer

All eight Fund I properties sell in two closings, in December 2025 and February 2026, showing that a focused, hands-on industrial strategy holds up to institutional diligence.

  6. Today

    $280M under management

Offices in Scottsdale and Los Angeles, with a portfolio across Arizona, Southern California, Texas and other Southwest markets.

The Pit Crew Behind Every Investment

Today, hundreds of accredited Hanson investors and institutions breathe a little easier knowing they have invested with people who will work tirelessly on their behalf; the racecourse pit crew they can count on to keep them informed and their investment objectives on track.

In 2008, everyone was running from real estate. I saw the same thing I look for today: good assets priced for fear instead of for what they can earn. We’ve grown a lot since then, but we still buy the same way.
